Schools celebrate second and third quarter artists at annual art showcase

Art took center stage at the St. Mary's County Public Schools Board of Education meeting on May 21, 2025, as students showcased their creativity through a series of impressive art presentations. The event celebrated the artistic talents of students from various schools, highlighting their hard work and dedication.

Among the featured artists was Rena Childress from Green Holly Elementary School, who presented a piece titled "Cherry Blossom." The audience also enjoyed works from Asia Furlough of Leonardtown Middle School, who displayed an untitled creation, and Lillian Racine from Piney Point Elementary School, who brought a delightful piece of cake to life through her art.

The celebration continued with contributions from Dylan Schwegeman of Evergreen Elementary School, who showcased "Winter Cityscape in Orange," and Kira Suhaniaka from Leonardtown Elementary School, who presented her "Radial Origami Design." The event also recognized third-quarter artists, including Brady Barr from Great Mills High School with a self-portrait and Maria Jose Lopez Camilo from Town Creek Elementary School, who captivated attendees with her underwater painting.

The meeting concluded with a heartfelt round of applause for all participating students, emphasizing the importance of arts education in fostering creativity and self-expression among young learners. This event not only highlighted the students' artistic achievements but also reinforced the community's support for the arts within the school curriculum.
