Goldsboro City Council supports Juneteenth Community and Heritage Festival funding request

Kariana Taylor, affectionately known as KT from 92.7 Jam's Curtis Media Group, took center stage to present her vision for the festival. With a warm greeting to Mayor Gaylor and the council, she emphasized the importance of Juneteenth, marking the final enforcement of the Emancipation Proclamation in 1865. "Continuing this initiative here in Goldsboro shows our commitment to unity and education," she stated, highlighting the festival's role in fostering community spirit.

This year's festival is set to take place from noon to 6 PM at the Hub, a shift from previous years that catered to a later crowd. KT explained that the earlier time slot aims to make the event more family-friendly, particularly for senior citizens who prefer daytime activities. The festival will feature a mix of vendors, educational opportunities, and entertainment, creating a lively atmosphere for all attendees.

As the presentation unfolded, KT made a formal request for the city’s support, seeking waivers for venue and street closure fees, along with a $3,000 contribution. This funding would help cover costs associated with the festival, ensuring its success and continued partnership with Curtis Media Group. Lisa Govan, the sales manager at Curtis Media, joined KT to outline the promotional efforts that would accompany the festival, including extensive advertising on local radio and online platforms.
