A major renovation project is underway for the O'Neil Hotel in Blythewood, with plans to completely transform its exterior and bring it up to modern standards. During the Board of Architectural Review meeting on May 19, 2025, the hotel’s application for a Certificate of Appropriateness (COA) was discussed, focusing on a new roof and significant facade renovations.
The current roof, which is over 25 years old, will be replaced entirely. The renovation includes removing the existing metal roof systems and raising the exterior parapet walls. The hotel will adopt a new color scheme featuring beige as the primary color, complemented by gray and blue accents. The red roofs that have characterized the building will be eliminated, ensuring a fresh and updated appearance.
