Pleasant Grove City Council honors Bill and Megan with URPA awards

The Pleasant Grove City Council held a work session on May 20, 2025, where community recognition took center stage with the presentation of two prestigious awards from the Utah Recreation and Parks Association (URPA). The event highlighted the city's commitment to enhancing community services through dedicated personnel and innovative programming.

City Administrator Mara introduced the URPA representatives, who expressed gratitude for the council's support and the opportunity to recognize outstanding contributions to the community. Leanne Powell, URPA's Executive Director, presented the first award for Outstanding Professional in Parks, Facilities, and Maintenance to Bill, a long-serving member of the Pleasant Grove facilities department. With nearly 20 years of service, Bill was commended for his unwavering dedication and presence in the community, ensuring that parks and recreational facilities are well-maintained and accessible.

The second award recognized Megan, the URPA president and a key figure in developing adaptive programming for local youth. She was honored for her efforts in creating inclusive opportunities, such as a junior jazz basketball program, which aims to ensure that all children, regardless of their abilities, can participate in recreational activities. This initiative reflects the city's commitment to health, wellness, and community engagement, addressing the diverse needs of Pleasant Grove residents.
