Christina Shockey named Burleson ISD 2025 Secondary Teacher of the Year

During the recent Board Meeting held on May 12, 2025, in Burleson, Texas, the Burleson Independent School District celebrated significant achievements in education and safety, highlighting the dedication of its staff and the ongoing commitment to student welfare.

A key highlight of the meeting was the recognition of Christina Shockey as the Burleson Independent School District's Secondary Teacher of the Year. Shockey's unconventional journey to teaching, which began with her opening a martial arts dojo at age 17, showcases her leadership and commitment to excellence. After taking time off to raise her children, she returned to education, quickly earning accolades as a paraprofessional and then as a teacher. Her classroom is noted for fostering confidence and growth among students, emphasizing the importance of building authentic relationships in education.

In addition to honoring Shockey, the meeting addressed critical updates on safety and security measures within the district. The Emergency Operations Plan (EOP) received approval from the Texas School Safety Center, marking a significant achievement as Burleson was among only 60 districts in Texas to pass the review. Furthermore, all 18 campuses in the district successfully completed random intruder detection audits with no findings, underscoring the effectiveness of the district's safety protocols.

The meeting also included an update on the Teacher Incentive Allotment (TIA), which will provide stipends ranging from $3,000 to $16,000 to 234 teachers, totaling over $1.8 million in additional compensation. Burleson has been recognized as a leader in implementing the TIA, further demonstrating the district's commitment to teacher growth and student learning objectives.
