The Roselle Park Board of Education meeting on May 20, 2025, celebrated outstanding achievements in student athletics, highlighting the remarkable accomplishments of local athletes across various sports.
Sydney Smith, a standout in girls' basketball, made headlines by scoring her 1,000th point, earning her a place on the school's prestigious wall of fame. She was also recognized as a second-team All Group 1 player and led New Jersey with an impressive average of 33.1 points per game.
In boys' basketball, Elfris Garcia was honored as a first-team player, showcasing his talent during a recent signing ceremony with Fairleigh Dickinson University (FDU).
Bowling achievements were also celebrated, with Michael Martin being named to the first team All Group 1 after a stellar performance that included a perfect 300 game. He was recognized as the Union County runner-up and will continue his bowling career in college. Camilla Cruz Cordero also shone in bowling, qualifying for states and finishing as the Union County runner-up.
The meeting also spotlighted the success of the girls' wrestling team, with Jasmine Fenaraga and Ava Forstenhauser both earning first-team All Union County Conference honors and qualifying for state competitions. Lucia Ranieri, in her first year of wrestling, was named the All Union County Conference female wrestler of the year and secured a third-place finish in New Jersey at 120 pounds.
On the boys' wrestling side, Angel Lopez, Maxwell Griffin, Diego Osorio, and Anthony Sinafraca were all recognized as first-team members of the All Mountain Division, showcasing the depth of talent in the program.
This celebration of athletic excellence not only honors individual achievements but also reflects the strong sports culture within the Roselle Park Public School District, inspiring students and the community alike.
