Kirkland hosts second annual pitch competition to support local entrepreneurs

Kirkland City Council kicked off the second annual Kirkland Pitch Competition on May 21, 2025, celebrating local entrepreneurship and innovation. Deputy Mayor J. Arnold welcomed attendees, reflecting on the success of last year's event and the inspiring journeys of the 2024 winners. He emphasized the importance of small businesses, noting that they represent 90.9 percent of U.S. businesses and are vital to the community's economic health and character.

Arnold highlighted the connections made during the competition, stating that supporting local entrepreneurs is an investment in the community and its future. He introduced Christian Lash, Kirkland's scheduled projects coordinator, who detailed the preparation leading up to the event. Over the past six weeks, the city hosted five workshops designed to equip participants with essential skills and confidence. Lash acknowledged the contributions of local experts who guided the entrepreneurs through this process.

The competition featured two categories: startups, which included new businesses and concepts, and expansion businesses, which had more experience and were looking to grow. Judges, selected from the audience, evaluated the presentations based on criteria taught during the workshops.
