Community mourns Yurik Gazalian, founder of Urartu Coffee in Glendale

In a heartfelt moment during the Glendale City Council meeting on May 20, 2025, members gathered to honor the memory of Yurik Gazalian, a cherished figure in the community who passed away on May 12 at the age of 62. Gazalian, who emigrated from Tehran to the United States in 1991, was known for his warm spirit and dedication to his family and community.

As the council members reflected on his life, they painted a picture of a man who not only pursued the American dream but also made a lasting impact on those around him. Gazalian opened Urartu Coffee in February 2004, a beloved gathering spot in Glendale where patrons were treated like family. His coffee shop became a cornerstone of the community, fostering connections and friendships among its visitors.

A service to celebrate Gazalian's life is scheduled for May 22 at 6 PM at Saint Leon Armenian Cathedral, where many are expected to pay their respects.
