Town Commissioners approve $434K street resurfacing contract with American Asphalt Paving

The Bel Air Board of Town Commissioners has approved a significant street resurfacing contract aimed at enhancing local infrastructure. During the recent budget town hall meeting held on May 19, 2025, the board accepted a proposal from American Asphalt Paving Company to resurface seven sections of town streets, along with the parking lot and basketball court at Plumtree Park. The total cost for this project is set at $434,990, reflecting a $24,990 increase from the initial budget due to necessary adjustments.

Commissioner Rutledge, who moved the motion, clarified that the funding for the basketball court and parking lot would come from a different budget account, ensuring that the project remains financially sound. The resurfacing initiative will cover key areas including Ellendale Street, Rowland Avenue, and South Reed Street, among others, which are vital for local traffic and community access.

The board received six bids for the contract, with American Asphalt being the lowest bidder. This competitive pricing allowed the town to expand the project scope, adding two additional streets to the resurfacing plan.
