Monte Vista City Council approves Cobblestone Hotel land sale for historic property use

Monte Vista City Council has taken significant steps to enhance the community's historical identity and improve local infrastructure during its recent meeting on May 15, 2025.

A key decision made was the approval of a resolution authorizing the sale of approximately 2.54 acres of land within the Sky High Park Complex to Cobblestone Hotel Development LLC for $300,000. This sale, which has been appraised and deemed adequate by a qualified appraiser, is expected to pave the way for a new hotel that will reflect Monte Vista's rich agricultural heritage. The hotel will feature historically significant photographs throughout its premises, including a striking floor-to-ceiling mural in the lobby, aimed at connecting visitors with the community's past.

In addition to the hotel project, the council approved an economic development incentive agreement with Cobblestone Hotel Development LLC, which will facilitate the execution of the sale and support the development of the hotel. This agreement is seen as a vital step in boosting local tourism and economic growth.

The council also discussed the "Safe Streets for All" grant agreement, which will allocate $118,000 towards creating an action plan for improving local intersections and sidewalks. This initiative includes the purchase of a speed trailer and traffic counter, which will aid in conducting traffic studies and enhance road safety. The plan will focus on traffic calming measures on Newcomb Avenue, including road narrowing and bike lane implementation.
