Pleasant Grove High celebrates retirements of Susie Byrd and Sid Hackford

Pleasant Grove High School is set to honor two remarkable educators as they retire after decades of dedicated service. Susie Byrd, who has spent 21 years in education—20 of which were at Pleasant Grove—will be celebrated for her dynamic teaching and commitment to enriching students' lives through the Spanish language. Known for her innovative approach, including teaching American history in Spanish, Byrd has made a lasting impact on the school community. Her leadership in the Latinos in Action program has inspired many students to embrace their heritage and strive for their full potential. As she transitions to a new teaching opportunity at BYU, the school community expresses gratitude for her warmth and generosity.

Sid Hackford, another beloved figure, is retiring after 35 years in education, with a significant portion of her career spent at Pleasant Grove High. Hackford has inspired countless students as a sociology teacher and has taken on various roles, including cheer coach and school librarian. Her leadership extended to the district level, where she helped launch the Alpine Learning Center and supported educators across the district. Known for her positivity and Viking pride, Hackford's legacy of service and compassion will be deeply missed as she embarks on her next chapter.
