Mountlake Terrace promotes community growth and environmental projects during City Hall meeting

Mountlake Terrace is setting ambitious goals for its future, focusing on community growth, engagement, environmental sustainability, and responsible governance. During the recent State of the City address, city leaders emphasized these four key objectives as guiding principles for decision-making.

The first goal, fostering a vibrant community, aims to remove barriers and enhance partnerships with local businesses and organizations. This initiative includes creating diverse housing options to ensure that everyone can find a place to call home in Mountlake Terrace.

The second goal is to cultivate an informed and engaged community. City officials highlighted the importance of events that promote public participation and a robust engagement plan to keep residents informed and involved.

Environmental sustainability is also a top priority, with the Hall Creek Restoration Project serving as a prime example. This successful initiative, completed in partnership with the Army Corps of Engineers and local stakeholders, focused on restoring natural habitats and improving water flow for wildlife.

Additionally, the city is making strides in recreation and parks. Recent projects include the installation of a new playground at Terrace Ridge and the redevelopment of the Veterans Memorial Upper Plateau, which features a natural playground, picnic shelter, and accessible facilities. These projects are funded through the American Rescue Plan Act and local partnerships, showcasing the city's commitment to enhancing public spaces.

Looking ahead, the Ballenger Park Trails and Viewing Platform project is set to begin construction this summer, further expanding recreational opportunities in the area. With these initiatives, Mountlake Terrace is not only addressing immediate community needs but also laying the groundwork for long-term success and sustainability.
