During the recent City Council meeting held on May 19, 2025, the Goodyear community came together to honor Nathan Torres, the recently retired Parks and Recreation Director, for his nearly 18 years of dedicated service. The recognition highlighted Torres's significant contributions to the city, particularly in enhancing public spaces and recreational facilities.

Torres began his career with the city in February 2007 and quickly rose through the ranks, becoming the ballpark manager when the Goodyear Ballpark opened in 2009. His leadership skills led to his promotion to Parks and Recreation Director in 2013, a role he held for over a decade. Under his guidance, the city saw the development of transformative facilities, including the Goodyear Recreation Campus, the Georgia T. Lloyd Library, and Civic Square Park. Notably, he was instrumental in the creation of more than 18 parks and numerous recreation programs that have enriched the lives of residents.

The council members praised Torres for his unwavering enthusiasm and positivity, which were evident throughout his tenure. His efforts during the COVID-19 pandemic earned him the 2021 Gabe Zimmerman Public Service Award, recognizing his commitment to community engagement and public service.
