City Council approves new tiered membership fees for recreation facilities

Allen City Council has approved a new tiered membership program for its recreation facilities, aimed at enhancing community access and engagement. During the meeting on February 11, 2025, the council discussed updates to the fee schedule for local parks and recreation services, which had been previously reviewed by the Parks and Recreation Board.

The new fee structure, effective March 10, 2025, introduces three membership levels: Bronze, Silver, and Gold. The Bronze level offers access to a single facility, while the Silver level allows access to two facilities, and the Gold level provides access to all three recreation centers. Notably, all members aged 60 and older will now have access to the Senior Recreation Center for an annual fee of just $5, reflecting the council's commitment to inclusivity for senior citizens.

In addition to the membership changes, the council has eliminated the $75 enrollment fee for new members, making it easier for residents to join. This decision is expected to boost participation across the facilities, which include the Joe Farmer Recreation Center, Don Roanbach Aquatic Center, and the Terrell Recreation Center.

The council also addressed rental fees for various facilities, including new pricing for Heritage Village and the Great Lawn at Terrell Recreation Center. A 20% discount will be available for residents renting these spaces, further incentivizing community use.

The meeting concluded with the council passing resolutions to formalize these changes, which are anticipated to enhance recreational opportunities and foster greater community involvement in Allen. The city plans to launch a communication campaign to inform residents about the new offerings and benefits, ensuring a smooth transition as the new fee schedule takes effect.
