Laramie Energy proposes new oil and gas development in Mesa County

Laramie Energy LLC has taken a significant step forward in its development plans with the Colorado Energy and Carbon Management Commission (ECMC) approving an Oil and Gas Development Plan (OGDP) for the construction of two new horizontal wells in Mesa County. This decision, made during the ECMC Commission Hearing on May 21, 2025, is expected to enhance local energy production while adhering to environmental and community engagement standards.

The proposed OGDP encompasses approximately 1,446 acres and aims to drill in the Mancos and Niobrara formations. Laramie Energy has already secured necessary permits, including an oil and gas site location permit from Mesa County, and has engaged with various stakeholders, including the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) and local conservation groups, to ensure compliance with environmental regulations.

During the hearing, Laramie representatives highlighted their commitment to minimizing environmental impact through best management practices (BMPs) and robust community engagement. They noted that the project is situated in a rural area, with no high-density residential units or schools within a mile of the proposed site, which is crucial for mitigating potential community concerns.

The company also addressed the proximity of the project to public water systems, confirming that they have developed an emergency spill response plan in collaboration with local water authorities.
