Ashwaubomay Lake maintenance and new playground equipment installation underway

The Village of Ashwaubenon is gearing up for a vibrant summer season, with significant updates on local parks and recreational facilities discussed during the recent Park Board meeting. Key highlights include the filling of Ashwaubomay Lake, the installation of new playground equipment, and ongoing improvements to the Ashwaubomay River Trail.

Maintenance crews have been diligently working to fill Ashwaubomay Lake, which is expected to be ready for public use shortly. The lake is being filled using a fire hose, and once filled, chemicals will be added to ensure the water is safe for recreational activities. The new playground equipment, designed to enhance the family-friendly atmosphere, has already been installed, replacing outdated structures. The equipment features a beachy Caribbean theme, complete with palm trees, promising a fun experience for children.

In addition to these updates, the Ashwaubomay River Trail is undergoing construction, with work expected to continue for about two months. The project has faced some challenges due to unexpected soil conditions, requiring additional excavation to create a stable base for the trail. Despite these hurdles, the contractor is optimistic about completing the project on schedule.

The Park Board also discussed the upcoming summer programs, which are seeing increased participation, particularly among senior citizens. Adult softball leagues are experiencing a resurgence, with 24 teams registered this year, indicating a renewed interest in community sports.

Other topics included the procurement of new park benches and garbage cans, which will enhance the facilities at local parks. A $50,000 grant for the Bandshell project was also announced, with plans for further design and funding discussions to follow.
