Community Leaders Demand Investigation into Alderman Victor Felix's Misconduct in Waukegan

Waukegan residents are calling for accountability and transparency following serious allegations against Alderman Victor Felix during the recent city council meeting. Elizabeth Marrero, representing the nonprofit organization Juntos, urged the council to investigate Felix for misconduct related to the annual Latino parade, Viva La Independencia. Marrero accused Felix of attempting to pressure the organization into withdrawing its permit application, claiming he threatened to find loopholes to revoke the permit if they did not comply. She emphasized that such actions violate the city’s ethics code and undermine fair governance.

Marrero's testimony highlighted a broader concern about the integrity of public officials, stating, “No public official should use their position to intimidate or manipulate community groups.” She called for a formal investigation into Felix's conduct and requested public disclosure of the findings, along with ethics training for city officials.

In addition to the allegations against Felix, the meeting also addressed the engagement of the law firm Witherspoon and DeMott. A resident praised the firm’s legal expertise, suggesting that their involvement would benefit the city. However, concerns were raised regarding a vendor payment of $24,999 to Brad Goodman, who is reportedly connected to former Mayor Ann Taylor. Another resident announced plans to file an ethics complaint to investigate the legality of using taxpayer funds for Goodman’s services.

The discussions at the meeting reflect ongoing tensions within the Waukegan city government, as residents demand ethical governance and accountability from their elected officials.
