Cape Air proposes seasonal flights from Norwood to Nantucket and Martha's Vineyard

Cape Air is set to enhance travel options for residents of Norfolk County with a proposed seasonal air service connecting Norwood to Nantucket and Martha's Vineyard. During a recent Airport Commission meeting on May 21, 2025, representatives from Cape Air presented their plan, highlighting the convenience and accessibility of the proposed flights.

Chuck Ferreira, Vice President of Corporate and Airport Affairs for Cape Air, emphasized the airline's commitment to customer service and its extensive experience in the aviation industry. With a fleet of 98 aircraft and a strong operational history, Cape Air aims to provide reliable service to the islands, which have seen a steady demand for air travel.

The proposed service would operate daily from Thursday to Monday, offering two round trips to each destination. This schedule is designed to accommodate weekend travelers, allowing them to depart on Thursday evenings and return on Monday afternoons. Ferreira noted that Norwood serves as a natural access point for the islands, especially for residents who prefer to avoid the traffic and congestion associated with Boston Logan Airport.

The presentation also highlighted the potential market for the service, with over 700,000 residents in Norfolk County and a larger catchment area of approximately 1.5 million people within a 15-mile radius. Historical data indicated that a previous carrier had successfully served over 500 customers annually from Norwood, suggesting a viable market for Cape Air's proposed flights.

Cape Air's collaboration with Flight Level Aviation for ground services at Norwood was also mentioned, ensuring a smooth operational setup for the new service. The company is eager to establish a strong presence in the area, focusing on maintaining high standards of customer service and safety.
