Exceptional Health Care prepares to open emergency hospital in Farmington by year's end

Farmington residents can expect enhanced healthcare services as Exceptional Health Care prepares to open a new emergency hospital in the fourth quarter of 2025. During the San Juan County Commission meeting on May 20, 2025, representatives outlined their plans to address long wait times in emergency rooms by providing immediate care for patients with urgent health concerns.

The facility, which is currently under construction, will feature a 21,000 square foot space, with an additional 4,000 square feet added based on community feedback. This expansion aims to create a more accommodating environment for patients and their families, including amenities such as family sleeping arrangements and entertainment options.

Exceptional Health Care's approach focuses on supplementing existing healthcare services rather than replacing them. The facility will be equipped to handle overnight stays, allowing for more comprehensive patient care. In cases requiring specialized treatment, such as cardiac emergencies, the hospital will coordinate with local hospitals to ensure timely transfers.

The project is also designed with energy and water conservation in mind, reflecting the organization's commitment to sustainability. However, the implementation of these improvements comes with significant costs, including a $1.2 million investment in an energy-efficient HVAC system. To help finance these upgrades, the organization is seeking assistance from local government.

As the opening date approaches, discussions with local emergency services and hospitals are ongoing to establish efficient patient transfer protocols.
