Galt Council revisits fireworks ordinance to enforce regulations and public safety

The Galt City Council meeting on May 20, 2025, focused on the revision of the city's safe and sane fireworks ordinance. City officials discussed the need to incorporate a previously overlooked resolution that limits the number of fireworks booths in Galt to four, all located in a designated area at 400 Fairway Drive, the city parking lot.

City staff explained that the revised ordinance aims to strengthen regulations against illegal fireworks while ensuring that legal fireworks sales remain accessible for local nonprofits, which rely on these sales for fundraising. The ordinance will also remove a distance requirement from vegetation in the parking lot, simplifying compliance for vendors.

Additionally, the council proposed changing the time limit for fireworks sales on July 4 from 11 PM to 9 PM, aligning with regulations in neighboring areas. This adjustment is intended to enhance public safety and reduce disturbances caused by late-night fireworks.

Council members emphasized that the revisions are primarily housekeeping measures and do not restrict the use of legal fireworks. The changes aim to improve enforcement against illegal fireworks, which have caused safety concerns in the community. The council plans to conduct a first reading of the revised ordinance at the next meeting to ensure all updates are formally recognized.
