Residents raise concerns over alleyway parking and noise issues at Galt Place

Concerns over safety and noise pollution dominated the recent Galt City Council meeting, as residents voiced urgent issues affecting their daily lives. Senior tenants from the Gaut Place apartments highlighted the dangers posed by illegal parking in the alleyway between D and E Streets, which has become a narrow, one-lane thoroughfare. This situation complicates access for emergency services and creates hazardous driving conditions for residents, particularly the elderly.

One resident described the challenges of navigating the alley, stating, "We have to wait for oncoming cars to stop. Sometimes, we play chicken." The blocked access not only affects residents' ability to exit their parking spaces but also raises alarms about potential fire hazards, as fire hydrants could be obstructed.

Additionally, the need for clear access to the bus stop in front of Gaut Place was emphasized. Residents rely on handicapped buses for transportation, and when the area is blocked, it forces them to cross the street, posing further risks.

Noise complaints also surfaced, with residents expressing frustration over loud music from vehicles. One speaker suggested reinstating fines for noise violations, noting that new residents seem to disregard the community's standards. "It seems like they feel they can blast the music any way they want," the resident remarked.
