Cullman County Commission approves airport reconstruction and development projects

The Cullman County Commission made significant strides in infrastructure development during its meeting on May 20, 2025, approving key projects aimed at enhancing the local airport and community facilities.

The commission unanimously passed Resolution 2025-28, awarding the bid for the GA apron reconstruction and terminal apron rehabilitation at Cullman Regional Airport to Wiregrass Construction. This project, which has been in the works for seven years, is expected to improve airport operations significantly. "We are fortunate to be able to get this project underway," said a commission member, highlighting the importance of the development.

In addition, the commission approved Resolution 2025-29, which involves the Midfield Development project at the airport, also awarded to Wiregrass Construction. This initiative will utilize funds from the bipartisan infrastructure law, opening up 20 acres for development, further boosting the airport's capacity and economic potential.

The meeting also addressed community safety, with the approval of a resolution to change the speed limit to 20 miles per hour on County Road 1462, aimed at enhancing safety in residential areas.

In electoral matters, the commission moved polling locations for House District 11 elections to the Hanceville Senior Center, ensuring accessibility for voters. This decision was made with the intent to revert back to the original locations after the election date.
