Putnam senior Ava Moore highlights academic achievements and upcoming events at school meeting

The Springfield School Committee meeting on May 22, 2025, highlighted significant student achievements and community events as the school year draws to a close. Ava Moore, a senior from the Vocational Technical Academy, delivered an inspiring report reflecting on her educational journey and the opportunities provided by the school, including participation in college-level courses that have prepared her for her upcoming studies at the University of Hartford.

Moore emphasized the importance of recent events, such as Decision Day on May 1, which celebrated the diverse paths of graduating seniors, whether they are heading to college, the military, or the workforce. The event featured speeches from school officials and a festive atmosphere with music and decorations, fostering a sense of community and recognition for the students' hard work.

Additionally, Moore announced upcoming events, including a free barber service on May 27 for seniors in preparation for prom and graduation, and a movie night hosted by the sophomore class, which continues a beloved school tradition. These initiatives aim to enhance student engagement and support local businesses.

Superintendent Dr. Darnell also took the opportunity to recognize Tara Boudreaux, an elementary social studies teacher at Indian Orchard Elementary School, who received the prestigious Barbara Kopron Award for excellence in teaching.
