Peoria County Bar Association honors legacy of attorney Karen Kendall

In a heartfelt gathering at Peoria County, members of the Peoria County Bar Association came together on May 23, 2025, to honor the legacy of Karen Kendall, a distinguished lawyer and beloved colleague. Karen Kendall, who passed away recently, was celebrated for her impressive career that spanned over three decades. Born in Clearwater, Florida, she led a life marked by resilience and determination, moving through ten states and territories before settling in Illinois. Her academic journey took her to Southern Illinois University, where she earned degrees in philosophy, American history, and ultimately, law. As a single mother, she balanced her studies with teaching college English, demonstrating her unwavering commitment to both her family and her profession.

Throughout her career, Kendall was known for her exceptional skills in appellate law, handling over 600 appeals, including 40 cases before the Illinois Supreme Court. Her colleagues praised her as a "first-rate appellate advocate," highlighting her grace and intelligence in the courtroom. She played a pivotal role in shaping the appellate practice in Illinois, setting high standards and mentoring younger lawyers to pursue excellence in their careers.

Beyond her legal achievements, Kendall was actively involved in various professional organizations, serving as president of multiple associations, including the American Academy of Appellate Lawyers. Her dedication extended to community service, where she volunteered to empower women and children, reflecting her compassionate nature.

As the memorial service concluded, the Peoria County Bar Association expressed its deepest sympathy to Kendall's family, including her husband, Larry, and her daughter, Carrie.
