Bill Malenius, born on July 26, 1934, in Chicago, was the eldest of five siblings and known for his unwavering support as an older brother. His journey began at Bloomington High School, where he graduated at just 16 years old. He then entered the University of Illinois through the Navy ROTC program, where his exceptional intellect was recognized by a mentor who encouraged him to join Mensa International—a membership he proudly held for over 40 years.

After graduating, Bill served four years in the U.S. Navy, rising to the rank of commander. His service included two years on a destroyer and two years at the U.S. Naval Academy, where he taught engineering drawing and geometry. Following his military service, he pursued a law degree at Georgetown Law School before transferring to the University of Illinois College of Law, where he graduated in the top 5% of his class in 1961.

Bill's legal career began in Davenport, Iowa, before he moved to Peoria in 1962 to join the firm of Swain Johnson and Guard. His wife, Jackie, remained in Iowa until their first daughter was born, after which she joined him in Peoria. Bill dedicated his career to the firm, eventually becoming a partner and earning respect as a pillar of the Peoria legal community.
