Taunton community honors John S. Stewart and Lorraine Marie Bork at memorial service

The Taunton School Committee meeting held on May 21, 2025, began with a moment of remembrance for two notable community members who recently passed away.

John S. Stewart, a lifelong resident of Taunton, was honored for his contributions to the community. Stewart, who worked as a silversmith and later for Morton Hospital, was remembered for his love of boating, the Boston Red Sox, and spending time with his family, including his three daughters, two of whom are employed by the Taunton School Department. The committee expressed condolences to his family during this difficult time.

The second individual remembered was Lorraine Marie Bork, who passed away at the age of 98. Bork was a dedicated parishioner and member of the Women's Guild at Saint Jude the Apostle Parish in Taunton. Known for her vibrant personality, she enjoyed various hobbies, including gardening and ballroom dancing. Bork's legacy continues through her family, with four of her grandchildren working within the Taunton Public Schools, including a notable baseball coach and a teacher.

The committee's tribute highlighted the impact both individuals had on the Taunton community, emphasizing the importance of family and local connections. The meeting served as a reminder of the community's shared values and the legacies left by its members.
