Band achieves sweepstakes award after stellar solo and ensemble performances

During a recent meeting, the Perryton High School Band showcased their impressive achievements and outlined their upcoming events, highlighting the dedication and talent of their students. The discussions centered around the solo and ensemble season, a critical time for band members to demonstrate their skills through individual performances and small group ensembles.

The solo and ensemble season allows students to either perform a solo piece or participate in a chamber group, typically consisting of three to seven members. This year, six students advanced to the state solo and ensemble contest, a notable achievement that reflects their hard work and commitment. Among these students, four will perform solos, while two will participate in ensembles, marking an improvement from the previous year.

Following the solo and ensemble season, the band will prepare for the University Interscholastic League (UIL) concert and sight reading contest, which takes place annually in early April. This year, the band excelled, earning a division 1 rating in both concert performance and sight reading. Such accomplishments are significant, as they contribute to the band’s eligibility for the prestigious sweepstakes award.

For the first time in 19 years, the Perryton High School Band achieved this sweepstakes award, a testament to their excellence across marching, concert, and sight reading categories. The band director emphasized the importance of student effort in achieving these results, noting that while guidance is provided, the execution and success ultimately stem from the students' talents and musicianship.
