BAPS Charities announces inaugural walk in Frisco to support American Legion

As the sun dipped below the horizon, casting a warm glow over Frisco City Hall, residents gathered for a pivotal city council meeting on May 6, 2025. Among the voices heard was Navia Jhinigam, a dedicated volunteer with BAPS Charities, who announced an exciting new initiative for the community. For the first time, Frisco will host the annual BAPS Charities Walk at Kaleidoscope Park on June 1, 2025. This event aims to promote health and community service, with the American Legion as this year’s local beneficiary. Jhinigam emphasized the importance of community involvement, inviting all residents to participate and make a difference.

The meeting also featured heartfelt gratitude from resident Susan Hanson, who expressed appreciation for the city council's responsiveness to community concerns regarding the long-range parks plan. She highlighted the council's commitment to preserving the tree canopy and minimizing resource disturbance in park developments, particularly in relation to a proposed dog park in Backus Park. Hanson noted that the council's policy recommendations align with the community's desire to protect local natural resources, fostering hope for a more suitable location for the dog park.

Additionally, Hanson commended the ongoing erosion control project along Rowlett Creek, praising the professionalism of city staff, particularly senior stormwater engineer Anthony Garcia. She expressed gratitude for the clear communication and respect shown by the crews working in her neighborhood, reinforcing the importance of community engagement and transparency in local governance.
