Commissioners award Oliver Hagg Scholarships to Valerie Van Zant and Landon Albright

During the Saline County Commission meeting on May 27, 2025, a significant decision was made regarding a change order related to a previous contract, which resulted in a reduction of approximately $68,000. This adjustment was clarified to involve mechanical locks, which were a minor part of the overall contract, costing around $700. The commission unanimously approved this change order, streamlining the contract's financials.

In a highlight of the meeting, two recipients of the Oliver Hagg Scholarships were introduced. These scholarships, each worth $1,000 and renewable for up to three years, are awarded to students pursuing studies in agriculture-related fields. The recipients, Valerie Van Zant and Landon Albright, shared their educational aspirations and backgrounds. Valerie, a recent graduate from Salina Central High School, plans to study animal science at the University of Minnesota Crookston, motivated by her passion for veterinary medicine and her involvement in softball. Landon, who graduated from Southeast of Saline High School, will attend Kansas State University to major in agronomy, inspired by his family's agricultural background and experiences in FFA.

The meeting underscored the county's commitment to supporting local students in their educational pursuits, reflecting a broader goal of fostering community development through education and agriculture.
