Lorain City Schools celebrated as top community for music education in the U.S.

Lorain City Schools has been recognized as one of the best communities for music education in the country, a significant achievement celebrated during a special board meeting on May 27, 2025. This prestigious award, presented by the North American Music Merchants, highlights the district's commitment to fostering a robust music education program across all grade levels.

The recognition comes after a thorough application process that evaluated various aspects of the music program, including student participation, funding allocation, professional development for music educators, and community support. Lorain City Schools is among fewer than 900 districts nationwide to receive this honor, which is expected to enhance the district's appeal to prospective music educators and attract sponsorships from vendors.

During the meeting, music department leaders shared insights into the program's growth and the positive impact on students. Emily Pack, a music teacher at the elementary level, noted that all students from kindergarten through fifth grade now have multiple performance opportunities, including concerts and recitals. She emphasized the importance of early music education, stating that students are learning to read music and play instruments at a young age, which has led to increased participation in middle school music programs.

At the middle school level, significant advancements have been made, including the introduction of a steel band and participation in competitive events.
