Utah Lake Adopt a Shoreline program enlists volunteers for monthly cleanups

The recent Governing Board Meeting in Utah highlighted significant community efforts focused on environmental stewardship, particularly through the Adopt a Shoreline program at Utah Lake. Heather, filling in for Kelly Cannon O'Day, opened the meeting by distributing Utah Lake photo books and emphasizing the ongoing commitment to maintaining the lake's cleanliness.

The Adopt a Shoreline program is actively engaging volunteers to clean access points around Utah Lake from March to November. Heather reported that Michael Packer has been instrumental in coordinating these efforts. Dedicated volunteers, referred to as "hunters," have been particularly effective in identifying and addressing environmental concerns. Recently, they removed a burnt trailer and snowmobile from Goose Point, collecting an impressive 560 pounds of trash in just 12 hours. This included various debris, such as mattresses, underscoring the importance of community involvement in keeping the lake clean.

The meeting also touched on related initiatives, including a life jacket program aimed at promoting safety in the area. Overall, the discussions reflected a strong commitment to environmental preservation and community engagement, with plans for continued efforts throughout the year.
