The project rebuilt a failing parking lot, added a sandy beach area on the west side of the marina, installed a playground and six shade structures, constructed a new vault restroom on the west side, and stabilized shoreline with boulders and riprap. “We are officially opening next Wednesday, May 21,” Jason said. He described finding large pieces of concrete and other debris buried under the old parking surface and along the shoreline during construction and said crews removed those hazards before installing the new shoreline armoring.

The improvement package was funded primarily through grants administered by the Utah Department of Natural Resources and county tourism tax dollars, board members said during the presentation. Brady Brammer asked whether crews had to go far into the lake to remove concrete. “On the cement that’s on the shoreline, how far into the lake does that typically extend that you have to reach out, grab it, and pull it out?” he asked. Jason said some concrete required removal by a company working in the water and that the practice of dumping large concrete pieces appears to be from many years ago. He said he could not state exactly how deep into the lake the material extended but confirmed crews removed the visible hazards.

When asked whether the project required a permit from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers or the EPA, Jason said he believed the engineers (JUB Engineering) handled any permitting and that, to his knowledge, the project did not require an Army Corps or EPA permit; he offered to follow up with the board to confirm. “I can follow-up and get back with you on that to make sure,” he said.

Board members noted the improvements also included shoreline vegetation removal and cleanup of phragmites, and they said the project aims to change public perception of the lake by improving recreation access and aesthetics.
