City Council proposes reducing Butterworth Road speed limit to enhance safety

Loveland City Council has taken a significant step towards enhancing road safety by proposing a reduction of the speed limit on Butterworth Road from 45 miles per hour to 35 miles per hour. This decision, discussed during the council meeting on May 27, 2025, aims to improve safety for residents and pedestrians, particularly as new sidewalk projects are set to connect several nearby subdivisions.

The proposal comes in response to concerns raised by residents about the high speeds of vehicles on Butterworth Road, which serves as a major access point for approximately 352 homes in the Brandywine, Butterworth Glen, and Chimney Ridge subdivisions. City officials noted that the current speed limit is too fast given the density of the population and the planned pedestrian infrastructure.

City Council members, including Mr. Goodyear, expressed strong support for the change, citing personal experiences with speeding vehicles in the area. The council is also considering further discussions with the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) to potentially extend the 35 mph zone to include additional sections of Butterworth Road, ensuring consistency in speed limits throughout the area.

The proposed speed limit change is expected to enhance safety for both drivers and pedestrians, particularly as the city moves forward with its sidewalk connectivity project along State Route 48 and Butterworth Road.
