Atkinson City Council approves $2M airport construction contracts and utility agreements

The Pittsburg City Commission made significant strides in airport improvements during their recent meeting on May 27, 2025, approving multiple key contracts and agreements aimed at enhancing Atkinson Municipal Airport.

The commission unanimously approved a grant application, setting the stage for future funding opportunities. This was followed by the awarding of a construction contract to Emory SAP and Sons Inc. from Springfield, Missouri, for the reconstruction of the taxi lane and connector taxiway. The total contract amount is $2,056,701.12, pending FAA concurrence and successful grant receipt.

In addition, the commission greenlit an amendment to the consulting services agreement with Olson Inc., allocating $217,400 for construction and closeout phase services related to the FAA-funded improvements at the airport.

Utility relocation agreements were also approved with Cox Communication and Evergy Kansas, facilitating the necessary adjustments for communication lines and power services in conjunction with the ongoing airport enhancements.

These decisions reflect the city’s commitment to upgrading its airport infrastructure, which is expected to bolster local aviation services and support economic growth in the region.
