Highcrest Elementary celebrates student achievements in Connecticut Writing Project

Highcrest Elementary School shone brightly at the Wethersfield Board of Education meeting on May 27, 2025, as students and staff celebrated their achievements in the Connecticut Writing Project. Principal Christine Morey introduced the event, highlighting the school's commitment to fostering creativity and excellence in writing.

Melissa Mazzafero, a language arts consultant, took the stage to share the success of 24 students who participated in the UConn student writers competition, which invites K-12 students from across Connecticut to showcase their writing talents. Mazzafero proudly announced that nine students from Highcrest were recognized for their outstanding work, a testament to the school's dedication to nurturing young writers.

The students, eager to share their accomplishments, prepared to present excerpts from their award-winning pieces, showcasing their creativity and hard work. This recognition not only celebrates individual achievements but also emphasizes the importance of writing in education, inspiring both students and educators alike.
