Rockwall County officials are taking proactive steps to address rising costs and enhance community services following the Commissioners Court Regular Meeting held on May 27, 2025. A key discussion centered around the anticipated rate increase for emergency services provided by the City of Wylie, which is set to rise from $21.95 to $23.33 per call starting January 1. Commissioners expressed concerns over the frequency of these increases and the need for clarity on the rationale behind them. They agreed to postpone any decisions until further discussions could be held with Wylie officials to better understand the cost changes and explore future options for emergency services.
In addition to the emergency services discussion, the court approved a fifth amendment to the master services agreement with Securus Technologies Inc. This amendment will introduce a new texting feature for inmates, aimed at offsetting revenue losses due to recent FCC regulations affecting phone call revenues. The implementation of this feature is expected to begin immediately, providing a new communication avenue for inmates while generating potential revenue for the county.
