LA County Library launches summer discovery program and tutoring series

As the warm summer sun begins to shine over Pico Rivera, the city is gearing up for an exciting season of learning and fun. The City Council meeting on May 27 revealed a series of engaging programs aimed at fostering a love for reading among children and providing essential academic support during the summer months.

Kicking off the summer activities is the Summer Discovery Program, set to launch on June 2. This initiative invites customers of all ages to dive into the world of books, complete various activities, and earn badges along the way. Participants can choose to engage in person with a paper game card or join the fun online, making it accessible for everyone eager to read and win prizes.

In addition to the reading program, the council highlighted the Summer Stars Tutoring Program, designed specifically for students in grades 1 through 6. This program aims to bolster reading and math skills, ensuring that young learners stay sharp over the break. The tutoring will be offered in two sessions: the first focusing on reading from June 17 to July 10, followed by a math session from July 15 to August 7. With tutoring available at 45 different libraries, including the Pico Rivera Library, parents have ample opportunity to enroll their children.
