North Ogden City considers Verizon's proposal for cell tower land lease

The North Ogden City Audit Committee convened on May 27, 2025, to discuss several key agenda items, including a proposed land lease for a cell tower by Verizon Wireless. The meeting was led by Scott, who introduced the topic of the land lease concerning city-owned property.

Dakota Hawks, representing Verizon Wireless, presented the proposal to locate a cell tower on city property. The first potential site discussed was situated on the southern end of Equestrian Park, while the second option was located on the northernmost portion of the parcel, near the green waste pit. The committee noted that the green waste pit area was designated to be retained as open space, which raised concerns about the appropriateness of placing a cell tower there.

The City Economic Development (CED) Director emphasized the importance of enhancing wireless service in the community, citing the growing number of connected devices and the need for improved Wi-Fi access. The proposed cell towers would have a service range of approximately one mile and are intended to mesh together to provide better coverage.

The committee acknowledged the need for further discussion regarding the implications of the land lease and the potential impact on designated open spaces. No decisions were made during this meeting, but the topic will be revisited in future sessions as the committee evaluates the best course of action for the city and its residents.
