Sahuarita Council highlights new employee hires and plans for July 4 drone fireworks show

The Sahuarita Town Council meeting on May 27, 2025, focused on several key updates and community initiatives, including personnel changes, public events, and infrastructure improvements.

During the meeting, Town Manager Bianca Cruz presented a report highlighting significant developments from April 15 to May 15. The town welcomed three new employees: Reynaldo Nalo and Andreas Flores to the police department, and Diego Gonzales to public works. The report also noted the addition of several new police officers, enhancing local law enforcement capabilities.

A highlight of the meeting was the announcement of the opening of the new splash pad at Animax Park, which will operate daily from 7 AM to 9 PM. Additionally, preparations for the upcoming July 4 celebration were discussed, featuring a hybrid fireworks and drone show. This innovative approach aims to enhance safety while providing an exciting experience for attendees.

The council also addressed infrastructure improvements, specifically the ongoing project at the intersection of Nogales Highway and Abrego Drive, which is expected to improve traffic flow significantly. The town has received a grant from the Recycling Partnership, amounting to approximately $250,000, to support the distribution of standardized curbside recycling carts to residents.

In community engagement efforts, 30 elementary students from Sahuarita Intermediate School participated in mock trials at the municipal court, fostering educational opportunities and civic involvement.

The meeting concluded with a reminder of the next scheduled council meeting on June 9, 2025, as the town continues to focus on enhancing community services and infrastructure.
