Chesterfield Pool unveils renovations ahead of summer swim season

The Norfolk City Council's recent work session highlighted significant updates to the city's aquatic facilities and summer recreation programs, aiming to enhance community engagement and safety.

One of the key announcements was the renovation of the Chesterfield Outdoor Pool, which will feature a completely updated pool deck, new bathrooms, and fresh pool furniture. This revitalization is expected to provide a more enjoyable experience for residents when the pool opens the third weekend in June. Additionally, the Northside Pool will temporarily close for a week in May to refurbish its ADA ramp, addressing safety concerns due to slipperiness. During this closure, patrons are encouraged to visit the Southside Aquatic Center and Huntersville Pool.

In a positive development for local beachgoers, Ocean View Beach will be staffed for the first time since 2019, enhancing safety and supervision for visitors. The city is also hopeful that Sarah Constant Beach will open later this summer with full staffing, further improving recreational options for residents.

The meeting also covered the summer recreation schedule, which includes a variety of water fitness classes at different pools. Staff at Huntersville are being certified for deep water aerobics and water safety instruction, ensuring a well-trained team for community classes.

Moreover, the council emphasized the importance of staff training, noting that recreation centers will close one week before and after summer camp sessions for in-service training. This preparation includes first aid certification and customer service training, ensuring staff are equipped to handle various situations during the busy summer months.
