Saint Cloud Council faces backlash over Twin Lakes annexation controversy

Concerns over annexation plans dominated the St. Cloud City Council meeting on May 27, 2025, as residents voiced their frustrations regarding a proposed voluntary annexation affecting the Twin Lakes community. "Go take a look at the courts... they're deteriorating," one resident remarked, challenging the notion that annexation would bring immediate benefits to the community.

City officials defended the annexation, citing a Joint Planning Agreement established in 2014 between Osceola County and the City of St. Cloud. They argued that the city is stepping in to provide necessary services as the county withdraws from maintaining certain areas. Council member Urban acknowledged the residents' concerns but urged them to direct their frustrations toward builders and developers for not disclosing the encumbrances during property purchases.
