In a recent work session held by the Lake County Board of County Commissioners, discussions centered on the selection of potential sites for a new community facility in Leadville. The meeting highlighted four proposed locations, each evaluated for their suitability based on various criteria.
The first site discussed was Harrison Field, followed by the Lake County Public Library, the Lake County Intermediate School, and Community Field. Each site was assessed for its size, accessibility, and compatibility with existing land use regulations. Notably, the Lake County Public Library site was quickly dismissed due to its inadequate size of just one acre, which was deemed insufficient for the intended project.

However, it was ultimately the Community Field site that emerged as the preferred option. This site, located west of the existing field turf area, was favored after a detailed analysis using a site evaluation criteria system. This system rated each location on factors such as size, proximity to recreational features, and environmental conditions.
The evaluation process revealed that while Community Field and Harrison Field were closely rated, Community Field slightly edged out as the top choice. The Intermediate School site followed in third place, with the library site ranking last due to its size limitations.
With the site selection process nearing completion, the next steps will involve developing a concept design for the facility, which will outline its size and appearance. This initiative reflects the county's commitment to enhancing community resources and addressing the needs of Leadville residents. As the project progresses, further discussions and stakeholder engagement will be essential to ensure the facility meets community expectations and requirements.
