Franktown Open Hearts seeks $450000 for stormwater infrastructure at new facility

The City of Franklin's Board of Mayor and Aldermen (BOMA) took a significant step towards supporting community development during their recent meeting on May 27, 2025, by approving a funding request of up to $450,000 for Franktown Open Hearts. This funding is aimed at addressing stormwater infrastructure needs for a new facility located at the intersection of Johnson Circle and Granbury Street.

Chris Barnhill, representing Franktown, emphasized the urgency of the project, stating that they plan to break ground by October 31, 2025, regardless of the funding outcome. The phased construction plan will initially focus on a 7,500 square foot building that includes essential facilities such as a culinary kitchen, classrooms, and spaces for various programs. This first phase is projected to cost around $6.2 million and will incorporate all necessary stormwater infrastructure.

Community support for the project was evident, with local resident Bridget Parks expressing her backing for Franktown's mission and the positive impact it has on families in the area. The board also discussed potential funding sources, including community development block grants and the city's share of the county's adequate facilities tax, to assist with the infrastructure costs.
