North Providence School Committee recognizes valedictorian, athletic success, and teacher of the year

In a vibrant gathering at North Providence High School, the NPSD School Committee convened on May 28, 2025, to celebrate academic excellence and community achievements. The evening was marked by heartfelt recognition of students and educators who have made significant contributions to the school district.

The meeting commenced with the approval of a new job description for an early childhood special education teacher, a move aimed at enhancing educational support for young learners. The committee swiftly passed the motion, signaling a commitment to improving educational resources.

A highlight of the evening was the recognition of the high school's valedictorian and salutatorian. Esha Bahedi, the valedictorian, received a citation from the school committee, with members expressing pride in her leadership and academic success. Although salutatorian Sasha Perrold was not present, her achievements were acknowledged, emphasizing the importance of student accomplishments in the community.

The celebration continued with the announcement of the North Providence High School Athletic Department being awarded the prestigious George Nusutti School of the Year. Athletic Director Anthony Piccicelli highlighted the department's success in various sports, including state championships in boys basketball and unified basketball, as well as accolades for academic achievements among student-athletes. The award reflects the school’s dedication to fostering well-rounded individuals who excel both in academics and athletics.

Principal Kristen McGill shared insights from the recent National Honor Society induction ceremony, where 44 seniors were honored for their scholarship, leadership, service, and character. Students expressed gratitude towards teachers who inspired them, showcasing the profound impact educators have on their lives.

The meeting culminated in the announcement of the district's Teacher of the Year, awarded to Jennifer Kolak, a multilingual learner specialist at Maguire Elementary School.
