Proviso Township High Schools District 209 is taking significant steps to enhance educational offerings for its special education students. During the recent Board of Education Committee of the Whole meeting held on May 27, 2025, the district discussed the introduction of a new curriculum called TeachTown, specifically designed for students with severe and profound disabilities.
This comprehensive curriculum aims to fill a critical gap in resources for life skills students, a group that has previously lacked a dedicated educational program. Currently, five teachers are involved in teaching these students, and the district is actively seeking feedback from them to ensure the curriculum meets their needs. The investment for this initiative is substantial, with a projected cost of $166,000, which will be funded through grant resources.

These programs are tailored to student interests and aim to foster engagement in the arts.
The district's commitment to enhancing educational resources for all students, particularly those with special needs, underscores its dedication to providing a well-rounded education.
