Ramsey Council members celebrate community events and bid farewell to Deputy Clerk Richards

The Borough of Ramsey Mayor & Council convened on December 11, 2024, to discuss various community updates and resolutions, with a focus on holiday celebrations and personnel changes.

The meeting commenced with Council President Kilman wishing everyone a safe and healthy holiday season. Councilwoman Jane Woods expressed gratitude for the recent Home for the Holidays parade, praising the Ramsey Volunteer Fire Department for their efforts in organizing the event, which was well-attended and showcased community spirit. She also highlighted her involvement in the Woodland Senior Center holiday party and acknowledged the upcoming retirement of Deputy Clerk Sherry Richards, who has served the borough for 21 years.

Councilwoman Judy Cusick echoed these sentiments, congratulating Richards on her retirement and welcoming new probationary police officer Aiden Brewer. She provided updates on the Planning Board's recent approval of a medical building and parking considerations, as well as ongoing discussions regarding lead service line replacements in compliance with state legislation.

Councilwoman Sarah Fisher Poppy thanked the community for their support during the holiday parade and noted the upcoming meeting of the Ramsey Municipal Alliance. She emphasized the importance of community contributions and wished residents a joyous holiday season.

Councilman Glenn Pablo reported on recent community events, including an art night and upcoming basketball programs. He also acknowledged the growing success of the Home for the Holidays parade.

Borough Administrator Bruce Bogat addressed several resolutions on the agenda, including budget transfers and salary adjustments for nonunion employees. He highlighted the bittersweet nature of the resolution regarding Richards' retirement and discussed the borough's support for an amendment to the Fair Housing Act aimed at realistic housing needs.

The meeting concluded with a collective expression of holiday wishes from council members, emphasizing the importance of community and the contributions of borough employees and volunteers. The next council meeting is scheduled for January 2025, where further discussions and planning will continue.
