Marion City Schools honors four staff members for Orton Gillingham certification achievements

The Marion City Schools Board of Education convened on May 29, 2025, to discuss various agenda items, including staff achievements and the superintendent's report. The meeting began with a confirmation of the agenda, which was approved unanimously by the board members.

Superintendent Mister Murphy presented a report highlighting the accomplishments of four staff members who received recognition for their dedication and hard work. Doctor Gary Augan introduced the honorees: Catherine Fairclough, Gabrielle Dendinger, Jennifer Lane, and Diane Scott. Each of these individuals had completed extensive training in the Orton Gillingham method, a specialized approach designed to assist students struggling with decoding and encoding skills.

The training process for the Orton Gillingham certification is rigorous, often taking one to three years to complete. The staff members engaged in numerous hours of training, lesson planning, and data analysis to enhance their instructional techniques.
