Cibolo Mayor honors military graduates and updates on city projects

In the recent Cibolo City Council meeting held on May 27, 2025, Mayor Mark Allen highlighted several key developments and community initiatives that reflect the city's ongoing growth and commitment to its residents.

One of the most notable moments was the recognition of 14 graduating high school seniors who are enlisting in the United States military. The council presented these students with challenge coins, honoring their decision to serve the nation. This gesture underscores the community's support for its youth and their contributions to national defense.

City Manager Wayne Reed provided updates on significant infrastructure projects, including the ongoing reconstruction of Deer Creek Boulevard and the progress of the Deer Creek drainage project, which is now over 75% complete. These improvements are crucial for enhancing the city's infrastructure and addressing community needs.

Additionally, Peter Sneden from the Guadalupe County Appraisal District presented a proposal for funding to remodel an old high school building in Seguin, which will serve as the new office for the appraisal district. This project, which requires a 16% increase in Cibolo's annual allotment to the county, aims to accommodate the county's projected population growth from over 200,000 to an estimated 280,000 by 2045. The remodeling initiative is a collaborative effort involving 21 municipalities within Guadalupe County, reflecting a regional approach to managing growth.

The council also approved the construction of a subdivision monument sign for the Bella Rose subdivision, which will be funded and maintained by the Bella Rose Homeowners Association. This sign will be located on Cibolo Valley Drive, enhancing community identity.

In another significant decision, the council accepted the public infrastructure for Bella Rosa Unit 3, officially opening Cove Lane for public use. This new road connects Town Creek Road with Cibolo Valley Drive, improving accessibility for residents.

The meeting also included the acceptance of a public notice board donated by DND Contracting, which will be placed in front of City Hall. This addition aims to enhance communication with residents regarding city events and announcements.

Lastly, the council voted to plant a memorial tree in honor of Sue Bassone, a dedicated supporter of the Cibolo Police Department and the senior prom. The tree will be planted in front of the City Hall annex, with the date of the ceremony to be announced later.
