Santa Maria Fire Department adds new engine to enhance emergency response

The Santa Maria Fire Department has recently enhanced its emergency response capabilities with the addition of a new fire engine at Station Number 6, located at the airport. This new engine is staffed by three fully qualified and highly trained firefighters, available 24 hours a day.

The new engine complements the existing aircraft rescue firefighting vehicle, allowing for a total of four firefighters to respond to various emergencies at the airport. Additionally, it enables the fire department to extend its services into the southern part of the community, bolstering the firefighting resources available to residents. With this addition, the Santa Maria Fire Department now operates six engines and a ladder truck.

In the past week, the new engine has already played a crucial role in responding to two major fires, significantly reducing the need for mutual aid from neighboring departments. The swift deployment of highly trained firefighters has been instrumental in minimizing property loss and enhancing civilian safety.

This development is attributed to the collaborative efforts of the fire chief, city council, and mayor, who are committed to ensuring that the fire department keeps pace with the rapid growth of Santa Maria.
