Principal Ryan Oakes honors East High School class of 2025 during graduation ceremony

Ryan Oakes, principal of East High School, delivered an inspiring address at the graduation ceremony for the Class of 2025, highlighting their remarkable achievements and resilience. With over $5 million in scholarships earned, thousands of AP exams taken, and numerous concurrent enrollment credits, the graduating seniors have set a high standard for future classes.

Oakes recognized the diverse talents of the students, from athletes to artists, and celebrated their contributions to the school community. He called attention to the 12 seniors who received academic all-state recognition in sports, the 30 members of the National Honor Society, and the 51 AP Scholar Award winners. The principal also acknowledged the 68 students who completed career pathways and the 57 who earned the state seal of biliteracy.

Among the standout moments, Oakes introduced valedictorian May Kingsburg and salutatorian Oliver Alejandro Oviedo Kellgren, both of whom achieved a perfect 4.0 GPA throughout their high school years. The ceremony also honored the East High boys soccer team, who were region champions, and celebrated individual accomplishments, including an All-American golfer and a state champion swimmer.

In a heartfelt conclusion, Oakes urged students to recognize their families and faculty for their unwavering support, emphasizing the collective effort that contributed to the graduates' success.
